Tangiteroria is a predominantly farming community located halfway between Whangarei and Dargaville on state highway 14 on the banks of the Northern Wairoa River. The Upper Wairoa Memorial Complex also known to the locals as "The Complex," can be found down Pukehuia Road.
Early photos from the start of the build 1983
The Complex was built by a strong community of farming families who got together to raise funds, some of which were also involved in the building of the hall where they used treated timber from the surrounding farms. It was a project that took six and a half years to complete. The hall was officially opened on the 4th of July 1987 by Colonel Tom Ward.
It has since been used for a variety of events from birthdays, weddings, funerals, political events and flood & drought meetings.
A small but committed group of residents manage it voluntarily according to the constitution and it is now registered with the charities commission as a charitable trust.
